Delicacy has always been a defining characteristic of Will Samson’s pop electronica. In voice as well as in sound. The fact that after all these years he actually produced a pure ambient album with almost no vocals seems as logical as it is worthy of the question: Why now? Because the tape Harp Swells (12k, September 8th) is simply so pleasant and perfect and beautiful, as if these sounds could have existed forever, at least for a long time. It’s unbelievable how many great, even perfect, ambient albums there are this year. In the abundance of good, Samsons has achieved a particularly good thing.
