Now We Are Branches And Leaves is a longform work clocking in at an hour’s length. It is a meditative study of repeating piano motifs that ground the piece, and ethereal trumpet and electronic subtleties providing tangentiel traces.

Now We Are Branches And Leaves is a juxtaposition of distant realities; both literally as a collaborative effort between Peter Knight in Melbourne, Australia and øjeRum (Paw Grabowski) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and figuratively in the distinct processing of the three elements that make up the track: Knight’s trumpet and Grabowski’s piano and synth arrangements. In a sense it’s a chance encounter between distant elements that, very much like a collage, make up a new whole that surpasses and extends the meanings and emotions of the individual components.

The sound is warm, rich, and haunting. There is a sense that the duo listened to each other playing over the oceans that separated them, the frequencies filtered by the waves and distance between. The instruments reach out and seem to take hold, somewhere in between, over a small quiet island.

Peter Knight

Perpetually curious, composer/trumpeter Peter Knight's practice thrives in the spaces between genres, categories, and cultures. Peter is interested in the use of repetition, rhythmic overlapping, slow harmonic evolution and subtle timbral evolutions to shift our perceptions of linear time. His latest solo album, Shadow…
